The Lovely Feathers almost ruled the world.

In 2006, Mark Kupfert and his troupe of Montreal grave diggers, grad students, and go-for-brokes coughed up Hind Hind Legs, a collection of candy-coated pop music that made itself right at home next to Unicorns alums Islands on the Equator Records roster. The album’s frantic, synth-fueled singalongs brought with them a caravan of praise – hefty endorsements from scribblers at Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Spin, the requisite Next Big Canadian Band mumbo-jumbo, and a world tour with Metric. Then…

Then something happened. What, exactly, depends on who you talk to. See, someone fell in love with a runway model, or got lupus, or went on a new-agey quest of self-discovery in Kathmandu, or got a fucking PHD, or who really cares at this point(?) At any rate, the band that formed two short years before at McGill University, the one poised to rule the world?....was shaking the clammy hands of “indefinite hiatus.”

But that was then. And,this, this bright day, is now. Convalesced, model dumped (sorry, sweetie), self in sharp Nepalese focus, and PHD gathering dust, The Lovely Feathers have remerged. Bearing the laborious fruit of hours spent at Montreal’s Studio Plateau, with the consummate Dan Legace manning knobs and such, Kupfert and company find themselves armed to the teeth with a new label (Sparks Music), a new record, a new tour, new everything!!!

The aforementioned fruit? Think of it as a detonation of synth-pop, twee, shanty rock and polite-electro called Fantasy of the Lot. Set for release in early August on Sparks/Tommy Boy in the States, and June 2nd in Canada[Sparks/EMI], the record is a fount of focus (or a blissful lack thereof), songwriting renewed and reinvigorated by relationships with beautiful people, views from Everest, side effects of Corticosteroids, or books about how to perform open heart surgery. Whatever the inspiration, this newer, better, wiser Lovely Feathers seems poised to return to the track they were forced to abandon three years ago – iPod by iPod, starting with yours, venue by venue, starting this summer.
